western rivers conservancy

Sometimes to save a river, you have to buy it. That’s what Western Rivers Conservancy does: buys land to bring permanent protection to the last, best rivers in the western United States. When Western Rivers Conservancy purchases riverside properties and conveys them to long-term conservation stewards, these places become public, community treasures.
Founded in 1988, Western Rivers Conservancy is the nation's only conservation program dedicated solely to the protection of riverlands. With headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and offices in California, Montana and Washington, the Conservancy has protected hundreds of miles of river frontage and more than 85,000 acres.
Western Rivers Conservancy is working to secure the health of whole river ecosystems so that the fish, wildlife and people that depend on them can flourish. Their work has protected clean drinking water, allowed for the restoration of entire river deltas, connected mountains-to-ocean habitat corridors, preserved vital fishing and boating access, and created major salmon sanctuaries. ohio river foundation

Ohio River Foundation (ORF), founded in 2000, is the only citizen group dedicated to protection and restoration of the Ohio River and its thousands of tributaries and streams. Our work focuses on returning the Ohio River to conditions that can sustain a healthy ecosystem, protect sources of drinking water, and also provide opportunities for recreational and commercial uses. We pursue these goals by engaging in activities that promote behavioral and systemic changes in environmental stewardship and demonstrate sustainable solutions to today’s environmental problems. ORF’s mission is to protect and improve the water quality and ecology of the Ohio River and its watershed for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations. delaware river keeper

From the New York Highlands to the Delaware Bay, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network (DRN) gives voice to the River and all the communities that depend upon a healthy watershed. DRN works throughout the 13,539 square mile Delaware River watershed which includes portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Delaware. As the only advocacy organization working throughout the watershed, DRN is powerfully positioned to identify and address challenges that threaten our River and communities. DRN has stood as a vigilant protector and defender of the River since 1988.
Nearly 15 million people rely on the Delaware River watershed for drinking water. This includes the 8 million people who live within the watershed as well as the over 7 million people in New York City and New Jersey who live outside the basin, but receive their drinking water from the Delaware River. the river project

The River Project is a marine science field station founded in 1986 at Pier 26 in Tribeca, on the lower west side of Manhattan, in New York City. Our offices, laboratory and research facilities are currently located at Pier 40 in Hudson River Park. The River Project works to protect and restore the ecosystem of the Hudson River Estuary through scientific research, hands-on environmental education, and urban habitat improvement.
The underwater area off Manhattan's west side waterfront has such high biodiversity and sustains so many important species of fish that it has been designated as a state estuarine sanctuary, a designation that was accomplished based on The River Project's many years of recorded wildlife data. The River Project's programs and interactive exhibits expand public understanding of the estuary and inspire people to appreciate the ecosystem in which they live. An intimate view of what is at the waterfront and beneath the surface contributes to a sense of well-being for urban residents and to the perception of New York City as a viable place to live and work. southeast watershed forum

The Southeast Watershed Forum is dedicated to helping citizens and communities preserve and restore their rivers for the benefit of current and future generations. Southeastern rivers are among the rarest and most biologically important eco-regions in the world, supporting about half of all freshwater fish species in the United States, including colorful darters, paddlefish, basses, sunfishes and sturgeons. Some species are found nowhere else on earth. The Forum builds local leadership for river and watershed protection through its public education, community training and regional partnerships. We believe that our rivers and streams are a special legacy and that their preservation is vital to our quality of life. Find out more at www.southeastwaterforum.org
